Application

Application Guidelines for MoCA Studio Exhibition

Overview

In order to promote creation of innovative and experimental contemporary art, to encourage interaction between artists and general public, and to increase and strengthen the bond and benefits of artistic exhibitions and art education, the Museum of Contemporary Art, Taipei (MoCA TAIPEI) has drafted this application for the MoCA Studio exhibitions, hoping to offer both Taiwanese and foreign artists a platform and opportunity to present their work.

Application Requirements

(1) Individuals or groups engaged in the creation and/or curatorial work of contemporary art (all nationalities are accepted);
(2) Applications of those who have had exhibitions at MoCA Studio within the last three years will not be accepted;
(3) Joint exhibitions or graduate exhibitions of groups from all levels of school societies and departments will not be accepted.

Exhibition Venue

MoCA Studio: the museum’s exhibition galleries 102 and 103. For details of the exhibition floor plan, please refer to Figure 1 of the “MoCA Studio Exhibition Application Submission Information”.

Exhibition Content

Exhibited works are not limited in content, formats, or media. Exhibition proposals with the following features will be given priority:
(1) Exhibition proposals that entail site-specific artworks for MoCA Studio (without damaging the museum building and comply with the Fire Services Act and public safety );
(2) Exhibition of new works that are publicly presented in Taipei City for the first time;
(3) Proposals that have received government or private funding/subsidy and await exhibitions.

Submission Requirements

(1) The application period for the 2024 exhibition schedule will open from May 1, 2024 at 00:00 to June 30, 2024 at 24:00. Please note that the timestamp on the postmark or email will be used to determine the submission time. Any submissions received after the deadline will not be considered for review.
(2) Applicants must complete the required forms and provide all necessary documents as specified in the “MoCA Studio Exhibition Application Submission Information,” which include: the applicant's basic information form, exhibition proposal including equipment requirements, list of exhibition artworks, exhibitors roster, list of attachments, exhibition layout.
(3) Applications with incomplete information and required files will not be processed;
(4) The submitted documents and related attachments will be kept on file by the museum, and will not be returned. Applicants should make a separate copy for their own use.
(5) Please store your application and all the required files on a cloud drive or a flash drive and deliver by registered post to:

And specify on the envelope: “MoCA Studio Exhibition Application”
Or submit the application documents via email, please send them to mocataipei@gmail.com,
and specify “MoCA Studio Exhibition Application” in the subject.

(6) The applicant shall guarantee that the submitted materials and the planning and execution thereof do not infringe upon the copyrights and intellectual property rights of others. The awarded party shall grant, without charge, a non-exclusive license to MoCA TAIPEI (including its supervising authority: the Department of Cultural Affairs, Taipei City Government) for the use of exhibition-related materials within the non-profit scope, with the authorization period not bound by the exhibition period.

Selection

(1) The museum will commission the experts to perform the selection.
(2) The museum will announce the selected applicants via the Museum website by the end of August 2024.
(3) Applications not selected may be resubmitted in the next round. The results of each selection are not to be disputed.

Arrangement for Exhibition Schedule

(1) The selected exhibition proposals will be scheduled for exhibition in 2025 according to the availability of the space and the characteristics of the exhibitions with respect to the applicants’ will.
(2) Each exhibition is principally given a time slot of six to eight weeks. The museum may make adjustments if necessary based on the museum’s plan for the entire year. The daily exhibition hours are the same as the museum's public visiting hours.
(3) If, for any reason, applicants/artists cannot exhibit as scheduled, a written notification with specific reasons must be submitted to the museum at lease three months before the exhibition start date. The museum holds the right to adjust the dates of the exhibition and/ or cancel the exhibitions if there are no other available time slots or spaces. In such cases, the second-place applicants may be selected.

Notifications

(1) The selected exhibition proposals will be scheduled for exhibition in 2025 according to the availability of the space and the characteristics of the exhibitions with respect to the applicants’ will.

Other

(1) In the event of force majeure such as natural disasters, epidemics, etc., the museum may adjust and implement relevant measures accordingly. For matters not covered in these regulations, the museum reserves the right of final interpretation and may revise them as necessary.

Required Forms and Lists (must be completed):

(1) Basic profile of applicant(s) (Form 1. For group exhibition applicants, each applicant must fill out one form);
(2) Exhibition Proposal Including Equipment Requirements (Form 2);
(3) List of exhibition artworks (Form 3);
(4) Exhibitors roster (Form 4; applicable for group exhibitions/curatorial exhibitions)
(5) List of attachments (Form 5);
(6) Exhibition layout (Figure 1);
(7) Others. If there are other relevant materials, please make your own list and briefly describe usage.

Others

(1) The Artist reserves all copyrights and economic rights to the artworks. The Artist shall hold entire legal responsibility for all activities that infringe the Intellectual Property Rights.
(2) The Artist agrees that the work, texts, images displayed in the exhibition and conference and event records may be photographed, filmed, and published by Museum’s employees and individuals authorized by Museum for use by Museum, for archival and educational purposes, display or exhibition at Museum’s venue.
(3) The applicant agrees that the written materials or digital files such as texts, design drafts, images, videos, etc. provided may be retained by the organizer for archiving.

Application Guidelines for MoCA Video Exhibition

Overview

In order to promote creation of innovative and experimental contemporary art, to encourage interaction between artists and general public, and to increase and strengthen the bond and benefits of artistic exhibitions and art education, the Museum of Contemporary Art, Taipei (MoCA TAIPEI) has drafted this application for the MoCA Video exhibitions (LED Video Wall), hoping to offer both Taiwanese and foreign artists a platform and opportunity to present their work.

Application Requirements

(1) Individuals or groups engaged in the creation and/or curatorial work of contemporary art (all nationalities are accepted);
(2) Applications of those who have had exhibitions at MoCA Video within the last three years will not be accepted;
(3) Joint exhibitions or graduate exhibitions of groups from all levels of school societies and departments will not be accepted.

Exhibition Venue

LED video wall (single screen size is 499.2 x 243.2 cm, about 3 m from the ground), the different display ratios and resolutions that can be adjusted and used are as follows:
(1) Full-screen video playback Available pixels 1248 X 608
(2) 4:3 video playback Available pixels 810 X 608
(3) 16:9 video playback Available pixels 1080 X 608
The video file format of the selected works: Mpeg, MP4, MOV, AVI, WMV, FLV, WebM... and other formats with a resolution above 720P are all available.

Submission Requirements

Notifications

(1) The selected applicant is required to execute the exhibition based on the exhibition plan. If the selected applicant intends to make any change regarding the exhibition, a prior given written notice must be given to and consented by MoCA TAIPEI . The determination of the execution of the modified exhibition shall be at the sole discretion of MoCA TAIPEI whose decision shall be final.
(2) MoCA TAIPEI will offer maximum exhibition production fees of $20,000 TWD, including expenses on printing materials and painting.
(3) The selected applicant may seek support from sponsors and apply for grants from other organizations except for Department of Cultural Affairs, Taipei City Government.
(4) For MoCA Video exhibitions, no press conference, opening ceremony, nor any educational activity will be held.
(5) The Department of Cultural Affairs, Taipei City Government is the supervising authority, while MoCA TAIPEI acts as the executing party for the exhibition.
(6) The selected participant shall cooperate in signing a memorandum of understanding, contract, and other written documents with the institution, and comply with relevant regulations.

MOCA Taipei holds a high respect for the copyright of others, and it is stated in MOCA Taipei’s terms of service that any user of the museum’s service shall not infringe on others’ copyright. Therefore, MOCA Taipei hereby ask all our users to respect others’ copyright. If you think any of the content on MOCA Taipei’s website or anyone using MOCA Taipei’s service has infringed on your copyright, we strongly advice to you to file a complaint according to the regulations stated below, and MOCA Taipei customer service center will initiate related procedures as soon as possible.

  • Regulations Governing the Report on Copyright Infringement

    If any of the content on MOCA Taipei’s website or anyone using MOCA Taipei’s service has infringed on your copyright, please fill out the “Copyright Infringement Notice,” provide the information and statements listed on the notice, and send them to MOCA Taipei via fax.

    1. Signature of the copyright owner or the signature of the proxy of the copyright owner; document proving the ownership of the copyright and the copyrighted contents, i.e. the cover and related pages of a publication, print-outs of webpage contents and the URL.

    2. The webpage and URL containing the contents that cause the copyright infringement.

    3. Your contact address and phone number.

    4. A written statement stating that you believe the use of the webpage content is without the consent of the copyright owner, the proxy of the copyright owner, or the authorization of the law.

    5. A written statement confirming that the information you state in the notice is truthful and you hereby make the statement as the copyright owner or the proxy of the copyright owner.

  • MOCA Taipei’s principle of handling the report on copyright infringement:

    1. MOCA Taipei will remove the webpage content claimed to cause the copyright infringement as soon as possible after receiving your notice, and will inform the user about the infringement via email. If the said user objects to said infringement, MOCA Taipei can provide your name, email or phone number to said user so that direct communication can be achieved to resolve the dispute.

    2. According to MOCA Taipei’s privacy policy and related regulations, MOCA Taipei is only allowed to provide a user’s personally identifiable information to a third party by the request of the law or a governmental agency unless said user agrees or for the purpose of providing a service. Therefore, when you file a report, MOCA Taipei will only remove the contents causing the copyright infringement, and will not provide you any personally identifiable information of said user. If you wish to obtain the user’s information, a legal proceeding must be filed at the District Prosecutor’s Office or the Criminal Investigation Bureau, who will issue an official letter to MOCA Taipei requesting the user’s information. In the case, MOCA Taipei will comply accordingly.

MOCA Taipei values user’s privacy very much and has implemented the following privacy and data protection policy, which is listed below for your reference.

The privacy and data protection policy includes MOCA Taipei’s management of personal identifiable information collected when providing users the website service as well as MOCA Taipei’s management of any personal identifiable information shared between the museum and our business partners.

The privacy and data protection policy is not applicable to any enterprise other than MOCA Taipei, nor does it apply to those that are not staff or managements employed by MOCA Taipei.

When you register a MOCA Taipei account, use MOCA Taipei’s products or services, browse MOCA Taipei’s website, take part in related promotional activities or gifting programs, MOCA Taipei will collect your personal identifiable information. MOCA Taipei is also allowed to obtain said information from our business partners.

When you register a MOCA Taipei account, you will be asked to provide your name, email, date of birth, sex, work title, field of profession and personal interests. Once your registration is successful and the account is successfully logged into for the use of our service, we will be able to recognize you.

MOCA Taipei also automatically receive and record the server data on your browser, including IP address, the information in MOCA Taipei’s cookie and the record of visited webpages.

MOCA Taipei uses the information for the following purposes: to improve advertisement and webpage contents provided for you, to complete your request for a certain product and to notify you about a special event or new project.

MOCA Taipei will not sell or loan your personal identifiable information to anyone.

In the following circumstances, MOCA Taipei will provide your personal identifiable information to a governmental agency, an individual or a company.
