Complex patterns can emerge from simple geometrical procedures, resulting in structures that may be wonderfully intricate and harmonious. Taking compass and straightedge construction as an example, through the use of only lines and circles, it is capable of producing many traditional designs such as Islamic tiling, Indian Yantras, Buddhist decorative art and tribal patterns. Fascinated by the simplicity in the methodology, and the implicit complex space it occupies, "state_void()" was set in motion.
"state_void()" also represents an experimentation at a more personal level. Through attempting the unfamiliar, art making becomes the pursuit for a state of mind, rather thAn exercising specific techniques in A particular discipline. Thus, art, just like life, becomes all encompassing.
Mandala and Sayagata (interlocking swastika) were the main motif in the making of "state_void()". Apart from the their spiritual implications, they also metaphorically represent the most basic forms in geometry: circle(symmetry design) and line(tiling pattern).
