So for every man who has ever lived, in this Universe there shines a star.
—Arthur C. Clarke, 2001: A Space Odyssey
When we are growing up, we learn how to play the roles molded by other people’s expectation in a group and wish to grow into the person dictated by such collective opinions, even to the point of abandoning our own self to embrace the values of the group. This project originates from classic songs, literature and movie that people are familiar with, and uses stars as a symbol for individuals or a metaphor for dreams. Chen compares them to the relationship between the cosmos and stars to that between a group and an individual, and explore how society influences a person when he or she tries to become part of the group through the process of socialization.
