With the goal of constructing a firm foundation for art education, the Museum of Contemporary Art started collaborating with Jian Cheng Junior High School in 2007 and activated the “Artist in School Residency: Museum-School Collaborative Program.” In 2009, Rixin Elementary School also joined the project, echoing the Grade 1-9 Curriculum of arts and humanities educational policies during the time. In 2011, the project expanded to include art education of Cheng Yuan High School, implementing the goal of the twelve-year art education. This project is a normalized implementation of unique art education plans that aim to provide a teaching method for collective creativity between students and teachers, and collaboration and teaching demonstration between artists and art teachers. Not only does this project yield rich and positive educational results, the annual collaboration allowed the public to witness the innovative model of art education and its outstanding effects.
During the second half of 2016 and the first half of 2017, the Museum of Contemporary Art has successively completed the “Artist in School Residency: Museum-School Collaborative Program” with Rixin Elementary School, Jian Cheng Junior High School, and Cheng Yuan High School. The project integrated with Taipei City’s recent “Taipei 2017 29th Summer Universiade” to understand the connections and cross-border cooperation with industry that are required while promoting the national event through art education. As for the arrangement of educational themes, Rixin Elementary School applied visual design, Cheng Yuan High School integrated fashion design, while Jian Cheng Junior High School used the topic of props design. Apart from understanding the nature of the work and profession through interacting with teachers of different subjects, and contributing to society, this project also explores the possibility of diverse development in art, cultivating the students’ imagination and creativity and triggering motivation for self-practice.
