MOCA, Taipei has always stood behind the mission of strengthening artistic capabilities from the roots, and begun launching "Artist in School Residency: Museum-School Collaborative Program.” Since 2007, the museum first collaborated with Jian Cheng Junior High School, and Rixin Elementary School joined the project in 2009, allowing the policy of arts and humanistic education to be carried out throughout the first to the ninth grade. In 2011, the project expanded to the art education courses in Cheng Yuan High School, fully realizing the objective of the twelve-year art education. “Artist in School Residency: Museum-School Collaborative Program” aims to create an opportunity for teachers, students and artists to work together and learn from each other, and is regularly implemented by an art museum in collaboration with schools as part of the museum's annual agenda. This well-loved program not only benefits both students and teachers in an immeasurable way, the annual Artist in School: Exhibition of Art Projects from the MOCA-School Collaborative Residence Program also allows the public to witness a new mode of art education and its abundant results.
During the second semester of 2015 and the first semester of 2016, MOCA Taipei completed the "Artist in School Residency" at the three schools. In addition to responding to recent social rhythm, the program specially incorporated the theme of "World Design Capital Taipei" and designed the art courses from three aspects, which are the observation of dots, the extension of lines, and the imagination of planes. The courses have offered diversified contents, including community development, cultural exploration, emotional exchange, artistic expression, etc. For the theme of design, a print making course centering on the technique and application of rubbing was offered at Rixin Elementary School. A metal work course was taught at Cheng Yuan Senior High School, whereas students at Jian Cheng Junior High School learned about architecture and sound. Through the three courses of various creative media and experience, different levels of design thinking were cultivated, guiding the students to be self-motivated in paying attention to their living environment. The students have, therefore, become aware that each urban dweller is a crucial part in shaping the details and the ensemble of a city.
