With the exhibition A Bookroom Faraway Nearby — A Joint Exhibition by ADIRONG and NAOHITO OTA, the artist ADIRONG transforms MOCA Cube into a tranquil bookroom. Each book in the room dons a black cover, preventing spectators from directly seeing the title or author’s name –only when readers “flip through” these books for themselves will their contents be revealed. ADIRONG states that, “Books like these, seem to also hint at our own lives. We cannot foretell what may occur in the future, or even predict the very next second...and yet, when we are willing to earnestly confront the present, to cherish being alive, and respect the flow of destiny, a ‘fearlessness and honesty in the face of the unknown’ will be fostered from within the depths of our hearts”.
Participants of A Bookroom Faraway Nearby can freely skim through the books in this exhibition. ADIRONG has also arranged for chance encounters between the reader and a mystery book by means of a raffle selection. The exhibition will simultaneously screen NAOHITO OTA’s video project Scroll of hours, in which various footages of him day-to-day encounters are gradually woven together, expressing the artist’s musings and reverence towards the poetry and philosophy of life.
